I read an intriguing book recently entitled Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age by Rosaria Butterfield. She urges Christians to speak the truth in love and stop enabling behavior that is physically, emotionally, and spiritually damaging to those who fall for the lies she exposes.
Formerly a lesbian and a staunch LGB... activist, Butterfield underwent a spiritual metamorphosis and now is married to a pastor. She writes and speaks about her former life, how Jesus redeemed her, and how Christians can be more effective in ministering to people who label themselves gay or transgender.
Her latest book gives Christians a helpful perspective on controversial topics. It urges them to see compassion as telling the truth even when it is difficult or feels risky.
But to tell the truth requires knowing it.
Rosaria Butterfield is a powerful speaker. She writes with a strong voice and a compelling testimony. A former English professor at Syracuse University, she applies academic discipline to socially sensitive issues.
Butterfield's book calls out the church for caving to social and political pressures and watering down what the Bible has to say about the following lies mainstream culture now embraces:
1) Homosexuality is normal 2) Being a spiritual person is kinder than being a biblical Christian 3) Feminism is good for the world and the church 4) Transgenderism is normal 5) Modesty is an outdated burden that serves male dominance and holds women back
The basis for Butterfield's book was her epiphany that a) Jesus is who He said He is ("I and the Father are one."), b) the Bible is an inerrant guide for life, and c) her insubordination to Jesus as Lord was the sin that led to her former lifestyle of sin.
Her message to fellow Christians and the church? Don't compromise on what the Bible calls sin.
Check out her book, Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age. It delivers a fresh take on troubling trends within society and the church.
The stakes are high. The well-being of future generations depends on the strength of the church we leave them and how well we model our trust in Jesus as Lord.
