Update from site
Work on Cricklade Road
The scheme's contractor, Alun Griffiths Ltd, has finished drainage and kerbing work on the southbound side of Cricklade Road between the Penhill Drive junction and the Moonrakers junction.
Last month further surfacing work was carried out on both approaches of Cricklade Road.
Updates from Beechcroft Road
Over recent weeks, drainage work along Beechcroft Road has been taking place on the side nearest the green patch of land and work to install kerbs along the new left turn lane is taking shape.
As of last Monday (14 June), our contractor closed the westbound lane of Beechcroft Road, between the main junction of Cricklade Road and the entrance for Merton Avenue. This will allow the final pieces of drainage and surfacing to take place, to construct traffic islands and to install kerb lines.
During the closure, which is expected to remain in place until the end of July, a signed diversion route will be in place.
Other work happening on site
The contractor has been widening the road at the southern end of the site, in preparation for further works at Headlands Grove and Chestnut Avenue.
The resconstruction of the footpath on Cricklade Road is also underway.
What's coming up?
Upcoming surfacing dates
Over the coming weeks we will be implementing day time, night time or traffic management measures at different sections of the junction in order for the final layer of tarmac to be laid.
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted during the work. Night-time closures will take place between the hours of 8pm and 6am.
This work will ensure the road has the longest lasting and best finish possible. The expected dates for this work are as follows:
23-25 June: night-time closures on Cricklade Road southbound only
28-29 June: single lane access through most of the scheme
30 June: night-time closure on Chestnut Avenue
1 July: day and night-time closure on Chestnut Avenue
2 July: night-time closure on Chestnut Avenue
7 July: day-time closure of Beechcroft slip lane
19 July: night-time closure onCricklade Road
20 July: night-time closure (with potential for a day-time closure) on Cricklade Road
21 July: night-time closure onCricklade Road
22 July: night-time closure on Chestnut Avenue
23 July: night-time closure on Headlands Grove
24 July: work will be completed within the current closure on Whitworth Road
Changes to traffic management on Chestnut Avenue
From today (21 June) motorists exiting Chestnut Avenue will only be able to turn to go southbound. If motorists want to go north, they will need to use the roundabout near Kembrey Business Park to turn back up the road. This is expected to remain in place for two weeks.
Thank you for your patience
We'd like to thank local residents and drivers because we appreciate these ongoing works will be causing much frustration.
We are working as quickly as we can to reopen the junction, which is why a number of night-time closures are planned over the coming weeks.
