Jeff Corwin is a fine art photographer living in Cardwell, Montana. Over the years, he has taken photos hanging out of a helicopter over the Thames River, in the Borneo jungles, on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and on the Italian aircraft carrier Garibaldi in the Tyrrhenian Sea while photographing Harrier Jet missions for Rolls-Royce. He has done photo shoots in 41 countries/5 continents. Commercial assignments included portraits, such as Bill Gates, Cesar Chavez, Ray Bradbury, Michael Graves and Vanna White, and his corporate clients were, among others, Microsoft, Dell, Apple, Boeing, Lockheed, AT&T and Time/Life.

After 40+ years as a successful award-winning commercial photographer, Corwin turned his discerning eye to fine art photography. With his landscape photography, Corwin trusts his vision. He does not second guess elements like composition or content. Humble shapes, evocative lines. Eliminate clutter. Light when necessary. Repeat.

Of this body of work, Corwin states, “It is an honor to have my western landscape images shown in the most beautiful city in the American West! San Francisco – with its rich history beginning as a small pueblo and expanding over time into a modern city filled with great restaurants, gorgeous architecture, distinctive neighborhoods and, of course, an amazing and diverse art culture – is an ideal city to show my work. My photography depicts scenes not found in the city proper, but encompasses restrained tableaux that embody the expansive history of the West, including San Francisco’s.”

The High Desert Museum unveiled its annual Art in the West exhibition featuring a captivating blend of traditional and contemporary artworks. This year’s exhibition boasts 113 pieces crafted by acclaimed painters, sculptors, photographers and more, hailing from all corners of the country.

Each work is inspired by the High Desert—a sprawling region stretching from the eastern slopes of the Cascades and Sierras to the Wyoming Basin and Colorado Plateau. This fine art exhibition serves as a canvas for artists—who must be invited to submit their work—to channel their interpretations of the region’s landscapes, history, cultures and wildlife. From oil paintings to acrylic masterpieces, pastel sketches to charcoal wonders, the mediums are as diverse as the artist’s inspirations.

The entire 2024 collection will be on exhibit at the High Desert Museum and available for viewing through the Museum’s online auction page at highdesertmuseum.org/aiw.

The bidding concludes and the exhibition closes on Friday, September 20 at the Art in the West Closing Party at the Museum. Attendees will have the opportunity to mingle with participating artists, watch live demonstrations and enjoy food and libations. The event begins at 6:00 pm and the auction closes at 7:00 pm.
