The image captures a perfect moment of the 'Relaxation Response' communicated between me and Rhett playing with classical longlining.
"The term "Relaxation Response" was coined by Dr. Herbert Benson, professor, author, cardiologist, and founder of Harvard’s Mind/Body Medical Institute. The response is defined as your personal ability to encourage your body to release chemicals and brain signals that make your muscles and organs slow down and increase blood flow to the brain.
Dr. Benson describes the scientific benefits of relaxation, explaining that regular practice of the Relaxation Response can be an effective treatment for a wide range of stress-related disorders."

A 'student of the horse' seeks clarity in the relationships shared with horses.
Years ago, I began studying the science of how mammals learn.
I experimented with classical conditioning and the 4 quadrants of operant conditioning and developed my own style of positive teaching and training using clicker and target training in the vein of classical horsemanship.
This grew organically into autonomy, choice and voice from human to horse and horse to human.
The more I learned about the science of the nervous systems, the brain and their pathways, the emotional systems and their pathways with the corresponding neurochemistry...the clearer the effects of 'why' of horse behavior occur became.
I layered this knowledge with positive training and my own movement twist and haven't looked back!
I had, and continue to find, fantastic results for myself and the students who added these new 'tools to their toolbox'.
Experimenting with and adapting the science of 'relaxation' and its response in horses, has organically flowed into my training.
Adapting the science of the 'relaxation response' for horses brought me to a 'whole' new system for teaching and training horses and humans, using science and a holistic approach to horsemanship."
