India: DoP to set up empowered panel to come out with drug authentication mechanism to rein in counterfeiting

The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has initiated the process of forming an empowered committee of drug regulatory officials and representatives of pharmaceutical industry to examine varied track & trace technologies and come out with an authentication mechanism to address spurious drug issues. Dr P D Vaghela, secretary, DoP informed industry representatives about the steps being taken by the department to set up a panel to devise uniform track and trace system at the second meeting of the Forum of Pharma Associations recently.

The counterfeiter has been found guilty and given an 18-month suspended prison sentence by the Court. In addition to the suspended prison sentence, the conviction also included a fine of 100,000 RMB for the company involved and 50,000 RMB to be paid by the guilty individual, for a trademark counterfeiting offence involving a batch of nearly 10,000 bottles.

Assam, India invite bid for alcohol tax stamps

Description: Government of Assam, Office of the Commissioner of Excise, Assam has invited bid for procurement of Security Holograms with QR Code which can be identified by the user himself with naked eyes and cannot be counterfeited for affixation on liquor bottles sold in the State of Assam under annual rate contract system. Estimated annual requirement 420 million tax stamps per annum.

MSP awarded Bangladesh Smart Driving License Card project

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) is expected to kick off the delivery of smart driving cards in the next two months. The regulator has assigned Madras Security Printers to issue the cards. According to sources, MSP has been appointed to issue 4.0-million smart cards in the next five years to overcome a backlog in the issuance of paper-based licence.

Costa Rica to issue first polymer banknotes

The Central Bank of Costa Rica will issue new polymer banknotes later this year, three years after a decision was made to switch banknote substrates. “The polymer substrate gives the banknotes greater durability, makes them more secure, and allows adequate recycling of waste once it fulfils its useful life,” the central bank says.
