Whew! After a hot summer and a return to "normal" travel with flight delays, train strikes and crowds, it's time to enjoy September. The summertime heatwaves are a thing of the past, and this month delivers cooler mornings, cobalt blue skies and magical sunsets. In France, kids return to school this Monday – la rentrée – marking the official end of the summer holidays.
However, September in the South of France is far from quiet.
Discover Château Charleval and the "Seasons of Heaven" exhibit that runs until September 15th.
Until the 25th, the Rencontres d'Arles photo exhibit "Visible or Invisible. A Summer Revealed" continues at multiple venues.
The weekend of the 17th and 18th, the Journées de Patrimoine is your chance to visit locations rarely open to the public, from private homes and gardens to public buildings that typically restrict access.
On the French Riviera, Nice hosts the Biennale des Arts de Nice – the flower-themed event runs until October in several locations around the city.
Not that anyone needs a reason to visit Ménerbes, but should you be near this charming Luberon village, visit the silk art exhibition before September 30th.
