Kennett Blooms Floral Flash and Kennett Summerfest, both first-time events, brought beauty and a welcome sense of community celebration to Kennett Square last weekend.
The weekend celebrated the beauty of flowers, the taste of Chester County’s terroir, and the skill and talent of local floral designers and winemakers who work their alchemy with what grows in local soil.
A “topping off” ceremony is a long-standing tradition among construction workers, particularly steel workers, to celebrate and commemorate the completion of a building’s structure. This ceremony also "introduces" the building to the public.
At this ceremony, the public will have the chance to sign the final beam, which will be adorned with a small evergreen tree on one end and an American flag on the other, before it's put in place. Here are the details of the event:
7am: Signing of the beam will begin
8:30am: Brief remarks and ceremony
9am: Raising of the beam
In the event of severe weather, the ceremony will be held on Friday, July 15. We hope to see you there to commemorate this milestone for the new library and for our town.
Today—Saturday, June 18th—at 11am at Anson B. Nixon Park, The Juneteenth Poetry Slam will feature hip hop icon Roxanne Shante and local student Isabella Hanson, founder of the international “I Matter” poetry contest and winner of the 2022 Princeton Prize.
The event will feature inspirational poetry, music, family fun, and more. The event is free and open to the public.

Find the freshest local produce at the KSQ Farmers Market this Friday between 3pm and 6pm—think peas, sweet cherries, cucumbers, zucchini, broccoli, fresh herbs, and much more—and plan to attend a discussion on Food Forests with Dale Hendricks at 4pm.
In 2009, Dale founded Green Light Plants, LLC to consult on carbon-friendly and regenerative landscapes. Dale lives in Landenberg with his family where he gardens, propagates plants, and works on rewilding—growing the productivity, diversity, capacity, and resilience of the land.
All food items should be new, unopened, and unexpired. Your continued generosity helps KACS provide food and emergency services to those who need it most.

Thank you for helping us to celebrate summer in the Brandywine Valley this week. This photo by Becca Matthias, taken at the Kennett Blooms Floral Flash installation at the Presbyterian Church last weekend, encapsulates what we hoped for Kennett Blooms—the joy of play and the experience of beauty.
We appreciate your support of the inaugural Kennett Summerfest, your enthusiasm for our Kennett Blooms Floral Flash, and that you continue to help make Third Thursdays on State Street such fantastic community events.
A huge thank you also to our Summerfest sponsors—we list them below and encourage you to patronize and support these community-minded businesses dedicated to giving back.
We wish you Happy Father's Day celebrations and a great week "Around the Square"!
