Kennett Blooms Floral Flash and Kennett Summerfest, both first-time events, brought beauty and a welcome sense of community celebration to Kennett Square last weekend. 

The weekend celebrated the beauty of flowers, the taste of Chester County’s terroir, and the skill and talent of local floral designers and winemakers who work their alchemy with what grows in local soil. 

It’s exciting to see steel beams going in at the new library building site. Mark your calendars to join the celebration of the structural completion of the new Kennett Library & Resource Center on Thursday, July 14, at the corner of State and Willow Streets.

A “topping off” ceremony is a long-standing tradition among construction workers, particularly steel workers, to celebrate and commemorate the completion of a building’s structure. This ceremony also "introduces" the building to the public.

At this ceremony, the public will have the chance to sign the final beam, which will be adorned with a small evergreen tree on one end and an American flag on the other, before it's put in place. Here are the details of the event:

• 7am: Signing of the beam will begin

• 8:30am: Brief remarks and ceremony

• 9am: Raising of the beam

In the event of severe weather, the ceremony will be held on Friday, July 15. We hope to see you there to commemorate this milestone for the new library and for our town.
