The Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation to Award Local Cancer Research & Compassionate Care Leaders

Event will feature photo opportunities with the Lombardi Trophy and a panel of current and former NFL players touched by cancer

MILWAUKEE – The Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation is excited to host the inaugural Leaders For A Cure event presented by North Memorial Health. The event will be Feb. 1, 2018, at the Saint Paul Hotel in St. Paul, MN. The afternoon will include awarding local leaders advancing cancer research and compassionate care, an opportunity to get a photo with the Vince Lombardi Trophy and a panel discussion with current and former National Football League players and moderated by ESPN SportsCenter anchor Doug Kezirian. Tickets are available for purchase at

“Vince Lombardi was recognized for his leadership and perseverance,” said Benjamin R. Haas, president of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. “This event is in honor of his legacy, leading up to the presentation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the biggest football game of the year. We’re excited to recognize those in the host city who join us in the fight against cancer.”

Together, the foundation and North Memorial Health will honor leaders from the Twin Cities area who are making an impact in the fight against cancer. Award recipients include Christopher Pennell, PhD, from Masonic Cancer Center; Jill May, RN, BSN, OCN, from Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, part of Allina Health; North Memorial Health; and Judy Erdahl, cancer survivor.

“When you’re diagnosed with cancer, you want a team that’s kind and caring, but you also want a team to fight alongside you,” said J. Kevin Croston, MD, CEO, North Memorial Health. “The North Memorial Health Cancer Center and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation are both excellent teammates to have in the fight against cancer. We’re proud to be able to join forces to present this event and continue to provide exceptional care to people and families affected by cancer.”

Along with the award ceremony, attendees will enjoy the opportunity to take a photo with the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy. There will also be a panel discussion with current and former athletes who have been touched by cancer. Guest appearances will include Jerry Kramer, former player with the Green Bay Packers, who stood alongside Lombardi during his fight against colon cancer.

Established in 1971, the foundation embodies the spirit, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence of Green Bay Packer Coach Vince Lombardi, who lost his own battle to cancer on September 3, 1970. In his honor, the foundation is committed to raising funds for advancements in cancer research and compassionate care.
