Hello,

I just wanted to say thank you to our membership for a lovely year. We have had some very interesting speakers and topics.  Our last dinner is on June 25.  I hope you all have a fabulous summer.

I look forward to seeing you all  in September.
Our dinner will be the last Sunday of the month, September 24, 2017.

Speaker at our March Dinner

On Saturday, March 25, 2017, after our Annual General Meeting and a delicious dinner at Golden City restaurant, we enjoyed a presentation of the history, the characteristics and the health benefits of Tai Chi as well as a demonstration, by pediatrician and Tai Chi master, Dr. Li Zheng.

On Sunday,  April 30, 2017, renowned Dr. David Chuenyuan Lai gave us an illuminating and in depth presentation titled, "Chinatowns in Canada".  He discussed the origins of several Chinatowns and his role in the revitalization of Chinatowns in several main cities including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria.

On Sunday, May 28, 2017, Dr. Chris Willmore gave us a fascinating presentation on the history of the opium industry and trade in Victoria, after our wonderful buffet dinner at Island Wok restaurant.

Future Speaker at our June Dinner

We hope you will join us on Sunday, June 25th, to hear Nancy Blundell share some of her recent experiences recruiting students in China as part of her presentation, "The Evolving Nature of Chinese International Students".  Nancy is the manager of the Sooke School District’s International Student Program.  Come ready to listen, to ask questions and to also share some of your own experiences with students from China. If you are a student from China, we especially welcome you!

September 24, 2017 - Arlene Blundell, "From China to Vietnam to Canada". This presentation will be an up-to-date story of a family of Chinese boat people who made their home in Canada.

October 29, 2017 - Pat Ferns, Documentary Film Producer, "Changing China".

November 26, 2017-  Dr. Tzu-I Chung, Curator of History, Royal B.C. Museum, "Chinese Canadian Experiences in the 19th Century: Early Transpacific Material Culture in British Columbia".

Membership in the VCCFA

The membership fee of the VCCFA (Victoria Canada-China Friendship Association) is $15/year for an individual or $20/year for a family. If you are interested, you can join at any of our events. 

Typically we meet on the last Sunday evening of the month from January-June, then from September-November. Our members range from about 12 years of age to 90.
