Beware the brume!
H.G. Chambers Reader Group

Good afternoon,

Ever get the sensation that you're being watched? That subtle tingling on the back of your neck, sending signals of danger to your brain? Recently, I experienced the feeling in a way that had me jumping out of my skin (and falling out of my chair).

It was a warm summer night, and I sat on the patio with my laptop, working on my next release. It was an intense scene in which my characters found themselves restrained and struggling desperately against an unseen threat. That's when it hit me - someone is watching. I glanced down and saw a shadow, then awkwardly spun, stumbling out of my chair and knocking over my drink (thankfully, not onto my laptop).

There stood my six foot three father-in-law, grinning with amusement from the other side of the screen door. It was then that I resolved to never again write terrifying scenes with my back to the door.

I've got a ton of awesome goodies for you in this update!

  • Beware the Brume! A preview of some of the nastier creatures in Exodus, Book Two of the Aeternum Chronicles
  • Super talented indie authors willing to share their work for free - even if just for a limited time
  • A 21 book sci-fi/fantasy collection (currently #1 best seller in steampunk sci-fi on Amazon)
  • A brilliant answer to a previous reader group question.

Stay safe, and watch your back!

Beware the Brume

noun literary

mist or fog.
"the birds rise like brume"

If you've ever wandered through the Wyrewood Forest at night, then chances are, you've encountered the brume without even realizing it. The normally reclusive creatures are often accompanied by a thick fog, helping them to confuse and disorient prey. Feeding on larger forest creatures like bears and deer, the brume will usually leave humans alone...unless of course, one were to wander into their domain.

Should you find yourself staring in confusion at a shadowy version of yourself, only to find an icy thin blade in your gut, then you have met your first (and last) brume. You may take solace in the fact that you are one of the lucky ones, as those taken alive suffer a fate far worse than death.

Discover the brume, and a host of other dangers in Exodus, Book Two of the Aeternum chronicles - coming January 2018.

My favorite part

Once again I'd like to thank you for discovering all these wonderful books with me. Hopefully by now you've got that nice full feeling you get after a huge meal. As Louis C.K. once said with his hands resting on his belly, "Dinner isn't over when I'm full. It's over when I hate myself."

One of my favorite parts of being an author is getting to know fellow fantasy/sci-fi fans. My question for you this time is...

What is the most memorable book from your childhood?

I can think of a few contenders, but for me the one that rises to the top is A Wrinkle In Time. Possibly because I'm excited that they've made it into a movie! I have high hopes - don't let me down Oprah!

Runner ups include The Hobbit, My Side of the Mountain, and Where the Red Fern Grows.

I'd love to hear your most nostalgic favorites - hit reply and let me know :)

Lastly, I received a response to a previous question that was so good, I had to share it with you.

The question: Who is your favorite fantasy character of all time?

"The Wizard in the  wizard of Oz.  I was so awed by him when I was a very small child. Never again have I felt such belief in a character's powerful frightening presence and such relief that he was not all powerful. He was just human like the rest of us, doing the best he could.

- Lola

 Brilliant answer. I love it.

That's all for this time folks! Happy reading.
