It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
Not Junk Mail

What's new and what's happening in store at Reverse Garbage Queensland

Hello Creative and Sustainable People!

Welcome to this massive November edition of Not Junk Mail!

October for us was all about two things; Halloween, where we had plenty of raw materials to create the spookiest costumes and decorations, and our refashion and cosplay exhibition, Worn Out?!?

The Opening Night Catwalk

The opening night for Worn Out?!? was a roaring success, with over 200 attendees and dozens of fabulous pieces made from salvaged materials. We'll be releasing post-event pictures on the event page, for all those interested.

In October, Reverse Garbage Queensland are also proud to have sponsored the three categories for the Dutton Park State School Arts Competition. This beautiful piece below was one of the winners, and was made by Rosie in grade one.

Sponsoring Creativity

Lastly, our focus leading up to Christmas is to #GiveGood. We want to encourage people to make gifts and decorations with secondhand materials, and purchase gifts made from salvaged materials rather than products that create new waste. Like always, we want people to think about the environmental consequences of their consumption, and love and reuse what is already available.

As usual, Not Junk Mail is bursting with great deals, so have a scroll through below.

Brisbane community radio station 4ZZZ has been operating out of their beautiful and dearly beloved three-storey, 1920s brick building on Barry Parade in Fortitude Valley for 25 years. Over that time a few environmental and structural factors have conspired against them to produce a serious list of building repairs.

The Building Blitz fundraising project seeks to raise $15,000 in donations to not only address immediate building repairs, but rectify various structural issues within the building that caused the damage in the first place to ensure that #BarryBouncesBack.

For every dollar you donate to stand strong for Barry, Creative Partnerships Australia will match your contribution dollar for dollar. With your contributions, 4ZZZ will be able to undertake a complete solution to the issue and ensure Barry stands strong well into the future.

Reverse Garbage Queensland are proud to be an ongoing business subscriber for 4ZZZ.

Waste-Free Winter Workshops!

Learn how to make Salvaged Stockings for Christmas

Come along to our Salvaged Stocking demonstration. This is a make-and-take: we will teach you how to make stockings from a range of secondhand materials, which you can then take with you for a lovely homemade gift, or a unique decoration for your home.

We will be demonstrating weaving techniques, decorative stitching and how to work with hessian without fraying it! As such, we'll be using a range of fabrics, including cotton, wool, lycra, assorted scraps, hessian and even rope offcuts and donated socks!

This event is on the 2nd of December at 10:30am to 11:30am. It's only $5 + booking fee, so it's perfect to drag a friend along for a fun morning adventure at Reverse Garbage Queensland.

Waste-Free Winter Workshops!

Register your interest for December and January

For years, our School Holiday program has been giving children the opportunity to learn with their hands. By having children creating artwork from clean salvaged materials, children learn about sustainability while practicing fine motor skills and conceptual thinking.

This December is no different! Come along to Reverse Garbage QLD these school holidays to get ready for an environmentally-friendly Christmas. Using some everyday recyclables plus our fabulous array of salvaged materials, we're creating handmade ornaments, wreaths, snow globes and pinatas in time for Christmas parties and to wrap up under the tree!

Our December workshops will run twice a day on Tue 12th, Wed 13th, Thur 14th, Tues 19th and Wed 20th. Our School Holiday workshops are designed for children 4-12 years old, and include an experienced facilitator and all craft materials.
