CALLED TO WELCOME THE MIGRANT

On September 5, the Trump Administration announced that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program will be terminated, effective immediately (no new applicants) and ending without continuation in March 2018. How can we look at this issue as Jesus would? In a recent article in Time, Minerva Carcano, UMC Bishop for the San Franciso area, explains why, "Ending DACA Is Unchristian."

According to UMC Church & Society, "Protecting nearly 800,000 young people from deportation and providing them with work authorization, DACA is a valued and necessary moral policy in our society. Yet, the government has decided to end (it) and open up close to 1 million people (and more, counting their families) to deportation."

“I know the Lord hears us and sees our crying," says Pastor Luky Cotto of Lehman Church's Casa del Pueblo Latino/a ministry, and co-chair of the Eastern PA Conference's Rapid Response humane immigration advocacy group. "(I)t is time for all of us to wake up and raise our voices,” says Pastor Luky. “We need to keep the pressure on Congress this fall. We need to unite our forces with others and see if they can hear us,” she continued. “Let’s continue to pray and fight back.” The only hope for DACA recipients is a legislative solution before March 2018. You can send an email to your members of Congress through the UMC Church & Society website today.

"ALL I NEED TODAY IS A LITTLE BIT OF COFFEE AND A WHOLE LOT OF JESUS!"

We'd love for you to find both every Sunday morning at Lehman Church. We're looking for someone to manage Coffee Hour on Sundays from 8:15 until about 10:15 a.m. Here's all that needs to be done – schedule individuals or groups to supply morning snacks, and ensure the Coffee Hour area in the annex is cleaned after 10:30 a.m. If we do not get a volunteer, we will need to discontinue Coffee Hour. Can you help? Having coffee and conversations with neighbors and newcomers is a wonderful way to demonstrate Christian hospitality in our community. Please contact Stephanie McCurry by phone at 215-822-6312 or 267-261-6790, or email at stephanie.mccurry@raymondjames.com for more information. Thanks so much!

Lehman Memorial United Methodist Church Hatboro PA Sermons Pastor Nancy Ludwig

LOVE IS NOT SILENT

Again and again scripture tells us we are commanded to love one another. Love is a behavior. We need to do what we can to ensure others have clothing, food, and housing. Many in our church family do this by contributing to the Food Pantry, the Love Fund, and our Outreach Ministry. We are also called to be committed to social justice, to pray for young people threatened by the repeal of DACA, to support UMCOR in their efforts to aid those affected by natural disasters, and to reach out to, pray for, and love our Casa del Pueblo community right here at home. Love is not silent. Jesus wants us to confront one another in love, to speak the truth to one another and to reconcile our differences so that all Christians may live in harmony. Listen as Pastor Nancy offers us support, insight, and encouragement on how we can live in love.

To Whom Are We Accountable? We are often quick to judge and slow to forgive. Jesus shows us how to forgive those who sin and how to accept one another when we disagree. Each person is accountable to Christ, not to others. We must base our thoughts and actions on the Word of God. Learn more this Sunday from Pastor Nancy.
