First Refugee Week events announced

Our online calendar has been pinging as events fly in from all over the country - 34 so far and counting, ranging from an 'Aleppo to Athens' walk in Durham to memories of Iran recreated in Dorset. Click here to find out what's planned so far in your area, or here to upload your own event. The Refugee Week website also has lots of resources to help you plan your Refugee Week event or activity. While you're there you might like to see this new blog post by HOPE not Hate on effective ways to have difficult conversations about migration.

Artists for your event

If you're looking for an installation, exhibition or performer for your Refugee Week event, have a look at our Refugee Week 2017 artists page, which has details of three installations commissioned by Counterpoints Arts, as well as a list of artists looking for performance or exhibition venues. If you're an artist and would like to be added to this list, do drop us a line.

What does Our Shared Future mean to you?

Ethiopian food with an English cuppa? A world where everyone is valued? We're collecting responses to the Refugee Week 2017 theme 'Our Shared Future', and would love to hear what it means to you. Fill in this short online form and we'll turn your words into a graphic to be shared online during the festival.

Call for writers

Also inspired by this year's theme, storytelling platform White Rabbit has put out a call for writers to send them short stories on the theme of The Future, to be performed at London's Toynbee Studios this Refugee Week. Submissions close 2 June, click here for more details.

Help us tell a different story about refugees

We’re looking for couples, families, children and others who have experienced displacement, as well as volunteers who work with them, who can help us bring a human face to the debate on refugees by sharing their stories with the media. If you think you can help, take a look at our 'case study brief' here, and email your ideas to media@refugeeweek.org.uk.

That's all from us for now - if you have something you'd like to add to this bulletin or our blog, or have any queries, do get in touch.

Otherwise, more soon!

Best wishes,

Emily
