Presidents Letter

I would like to personal thank Pulpit Supply Pastors Pastor Marylou Petitjean and Reverend Susan Taylor on behalf of Gift of Grace Lutheran Church for their service. They both have taken interim positions with other churches in the Reno area and will no longer be able to serve our Congregation at this time. We wish you the best and hope to see you in the near future!

As Pastor Petitjean is taking an interim position we will not be able to have a Confirmation class here at Gift of Grace. Pastor Petitjean has supplied the names of the ELCA churches in Reno to find out if they are offering confirmation courses for young adults. As it turns out, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd will offer this class. The confirmation class will start after Labor Day, and times and dates will be determined and provided to interested families in the future. There is no cost for the class, but participants must have a Bible to take with them. I will keep you posted regarding further information as details become available.

We are still working on our 6 month – 1 year goals. One of them is to find qualified individuals to take over the positions of President and Treasurer. The current President and Treasurer will reach the end of their terms at the end of January 2019. Also, if you are interested in the Financial Secretary’s position please let one of the council members know as Karla Simmons has agreed to stay on until a replacement is found as her term ended this past January. We are still working on fine-tuning the Time and Talents Survey and hope to have it out to members soon. We have a listing of committees, with the duties and responsibilities for each of the committees and who the chair and co-chair are for each one. If you are interested in being on one of the committees please see me. Please think and pray about stepping forward as the church needs someone like you who can bring your time and talents to the council, the committees, the church, and to the congregation.

There are many events coming up that members of the church are participating in. Here are the calendar events:

  • July 7th – Relay for Life starting at 10am at the Out of Town Park
  • July 14th – Cleaning of Millennium Park at 7am
  • August 18th – Baseball game at Greater Nevada Park @ 7pm.
  • September 9th – God’s Work Our Hands Sunday
  • October 13th – Fall Craft Fair and Bake Sale
  • December 8th – Annual Holiday Craft Fair and Bake Sale

We will be going to see the Reno Aces play the Salt Lake Bees at 7pm. There are 20 seats reserved and the tickets are $16 each which includes a free hat. Money is due by August 5th. For more information contact Marcie at 575-6332.
