Behold the inter-dimensional Tesseract
H.G. Chambers Reader Group

Hi there

What a surreal couple of weeks it's been. Hurricane Harvey has wrought its devastation upon the southern gulf of Texas, turning the landscape into something out of a post-apocalyptic film.

As often happens, these kinds of disasters bring out the best in humanity. Given all the strife in the U.S. as of late, it was incredibly heartening to see people springing into action to help their fellow humans.

Like these everyday local Texans, helping to rescue the national guard...

but not all heroes drive monster trucks...

Seriously though, there are a LOT of people who've lost their homes, their belongings, everything.

If you'd like to help them out by donating to the hurricane harvey relief fund, Global Giving has a campaign set up here.

In this update you'll find all kinds of goodies, including:

  • The mystery of the inter-dimensional Tesseract
  • Fantastic Fantasy Fiction - a bookfunnel giveaway of some truly excellent books
  • An opportunity to join the H.G. Chambers ARC team
  • Fairytales retold - the latest book in the Perrault Chronicles
  • Flight of Fantasy giveaway - free downloadable books, many of which I have greedily snatched up!

The Interdimensional Tesseract

In geometry, a tesseract is the four-dimensional analog of the cube; the tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square. Just as the surface of the cube consists of six square faces, the hypersurface of the tesseract consists of eight cubical cells.

Behold the Tesseract, an inter-dimensional being with such depth and complexity, that merely observing it can have dire consequences. The geometric shape above is merely a two dimensional representation of this four dimensional entity. Alas, it is the only safe method that exists for comprehending it.

"Any interaction it has with another being allows it to see the web of possibility streams connected to that being. Everything your life is, was, could have been, and will ever be."

But such knowledge does not come without cost...

"An encounter with the Tesseract is an intimately powerful exchange. It is one that will change you, permanently. It doesn’t simply answer your question, it shows you a multi-dimensional vision of your entire existence—all the paths your life could take. The vision it imparts vastly exceeds the comprehension of simple three-dimensional beings like ourselves. The complexity can be so great, so intense and overwhelming, that there can be…consequences.”

Will Oren and Clementine resort to engaging the Tesseract to stop Gabrial from destroying their world?

My favorite part

And so we once again draw to the conclusion of another reader update. Thank you for sticking around til the very end.

I've been learning so much, and receiving such fantastic answers to the reader questions I've been asking! We're on a roll, so let's keep it going, yes?

What is one thing EVERY fantasy book should have?

A sword? Magic? This is a tricky one. I can think of amazing fantasy books that have had neither.

I think my answer would have to be...humor. Maybe not in every chapter, but it's nice to see that characters can laugh, even when facing the end of the world.

What do you think?  - hit reply and let me know :)

Lastly, I received some fantastic responses to last update's question, and had to share:

The question: What is the most memorable book from your childhood?

I received a number of great responses, but a surprising number of them pointed to one author in particular:

Robert Anson Heinlein

The books mentioned include:

Have Space Suit Will Travel
Stranger in a Strange Land

and did you know he wrote Starship Troopers? I did not!

Thank you so much Meg and Ray for these great answers.

That's all for this time!

Happy reading,
