The Network supporting partner at the Middle East Electricity, 6-8 March 2018 in Dubai, UAE

The Network is glad to be again a supporting partner at the Middle East Electricity (MME). MEE opens its doors in Dubai from 6 to 8 March 2018.

Information Session on "Energy transition in the GCC region: prospects for EU GCC collaboration", 8 March 2018 in Brussels, Belgium

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network is organizing an information session on:  The clean energy transition in the GCC region: developments, prospects and business opportunities for the EU”.

The information session is hosted in the Centre of European Policy Studies (CEPS), Brussels on 8 March and will take place from 11:30 to 13:15 followed by a light lunch. More information can be found at the event's webpage. 

The Network supporting partner at the Future Cities Show, 9-11 April 2018, Dubai, UAE

The second edition of the Future Cities Show is set to take place from the 9th to the 11th of April 2018 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The show will highlight the latest and the most innovative technologies, which are set to change the Future. The Network is contributing to the conference by organising a session on the 2nd day entitled Sustainable Smart Cities and Smart Buildings. The session will be moderated by Dr. Haris Doukas, Network's Research Collaboration Specialist. More information can be found here.

MENA New Energy's 10-year legacy unites every off-taker, government, developer, investor, EPC and, supplier - to develop PV, CSP, Wind and, Energy Storage projects. Teck Talk within the WFES: Energy Storage Technologies to Meet Today’s Key Challenges and Market Demand, 18 January 2018, Abu Dhabi, UAE

On 18 January 2018 and within the framework of WFES Tech Talks, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network organised a one-hour session entitled Energy Storage Technologies to Meet Today’s Key Challenges and Market Demand.

The session was presented by Dr. Florian Klumpp, Project Manager at Fichtner and Industry Collaboration Coordinator at EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network. The presentation is available at the e-training center of the Network's website.

Energy Efficiency Training within the World Future Energy Summit, 17 January 2018, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Within the World Future Energy Summit 2018, on Wednesday 17 January 2018, the Network organised an Energy Efficiency training event that consisted of 6 sessions. The topics presented were: Smart Energy Cities, Smart Grids, Energy Efficiency Certification in Buildings - the EU Experience, Energy Efficiency in Hospitality, Saving Resources by Evaporative Cooling and, Dynamic Simulation of Energy Performance in Buildings.

The hydrogen society: breakfast briefing at the WFES, 17 January 2018, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Frank Wouters, Director - EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, moderated the briefing on 17th January discussing the opportunities of a hydrogen society, as well as the cost of infrastructure and the regulatory frameworks needed. 

EU calls for International Collaboration at EU Energy Day in WFES as Research and Innovation Opportunities Intensify, 16 January 2018, Abu Dhabi, UAE

The EU Energy Day “EU's Clean Energy Future: From Technology Development to System Integration” organised by the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network together with the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission took place January 16, 2018 within the World Future Energy Summit, in Abu Dhabi UAE. During the morning session of the EU Energy Day, Ms Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Director of Renewables, Research and Innovation, Energy Efficiency, DG Energy, presented EU's priorities to accelerate clean energy innovation in EU's biggest research and innovation funding programme Horizon 2020. H.E.  Matar Hamedi al Heyadi, Undersecretary to the Ministry of Energy, UAE, stated that the UAE-EU share a common goal to succeed in market transition to clean energy, recently reconfirmed in commitments such as the UAE Energy plan 2050. Such a plan, he stressed, will only succeed if there is local, regional and international cooperation. 

During the afternoon sessions, the Commission and the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network organised a meeting place for research institutions and innovative cleantech companies from the EU, the GCC and other regions. The Network had the opportunity to interact with many innovation actors and start-ups while numerous follow up prospects have been identified. Naming just a few of them that had an active role in the Energy Day Agenda and networking: Eternal Sun, Beon Energy, Innoenergy, Energyville, Stedin, Universal Rights, WindCity, 220Energia, LightFi, KISR, Masdar Institute, Res4MEd,  SolarPowerEurope, CorPower Ocean, ACM, Skeleton Technologies, etc. Thomas Samuel, CEO of Sunna Design and winner of this year's Zayed Prize also joined and addressed the event.

The Network at CLIX - part of WFES, 15-18 January 2018, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Frank Wouters, Director and Ioanna Makarouni Communication Manager of the Network were really proud to serve as judges at the successful and interesting CLIX inittaive, on 17 -18 January within WFES. CLIX serves as one of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week’s most prominent platforms that aims to create a competitive environment, bringing together investors and innovative entrepreneurs, and stimulate partnerships and innovation to help transform creative ideas into reality.

Saudi Arabia EU Energy Efficiency Summit within HVAC-R, 14 January 2018, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia 

The EU - Saudi Arabia Energy Efficiency Meeting 2018, was an initiative by the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, the European Union Delegation to Saudi Arabia, SASO, and was organised in partnership with HAVCR Expo Saudi and Eurovent ME.

The meeting addressed collaboration opportunities between Saudi Arabia and the European Union on HVAC standards, certification, and labeling. All presentation are available on the event's webpage

Webinar - Flexibility: Enabling Renewable Energy Uptake in the EU Electricity Market, 20 December 2017

The Network organised a webinar entitled Flexibility: Enabling Renewable Energy Uptake in the EU Electricity Market delivered on Wednesday, 20 December 2017. 

The webinar focused on the share of intermittent wind and solar power in the EU which is increasing. The presentations, as well as the recorded webinar video, are available at the e-training center at the Network's website. 

Workshop and Training - Renewables -A Key Driver for Clean Energy Transition, 13-14 December, 2017, Muscat, Oman

The successful two-day event was organised by the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network in partnership with the Authority for Electricity Regulations (AER) and the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), as well as in association with the Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA) and the Dii - Desert Energy. The meeting gathered more than 130 distinguished experts from the EU and the GCC.

The Network at The Big5 Solar, 26-27 November 2017, Dubai, UAE

The Big 5 Solar and Global Solar Leaders' Summit under the patronage of The Ministry of Energy, UAE took place on November 26 - 29 2017  at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event was dedicated to driving a solar powered world and building the solar community of tomorrow.
Frank Wouters, the Network Director was a panelist at the Top Technology Panel: Innovations, Advancements and Recent Breakthroughs in the World of Solar Technology, moderated by Gurmeet Kaur,Marketing - Communication, Board Member, MESIA with co-panelists: Alireza Mehrtash,Vice President- Global Sales and Marketing, ABB; Kevin Robinson, Technical Services Manager-Middle East and Africa, JinkoSolar and Founding member, South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) ;and Dr. Nicholas Calvet, Assistant Professor, Chair of the Masdar Institute Solar Platform (MISP)
Frank Wouters also moderated the popular Finance Panel: Exploring Solar Finance and Investment Opportunities. His panelists were: Brendan Cronin, Head of Management Consulting - Middle East, Poyry; Clint Dempsey, Partner - Banking & Finance, Eversheds; Cornelius Matthes, CEO, Kuwekeza Holdings and Senior Vice President, Dii Desert Energy; Jaikishin Asnani, Investment Officer, IFC - International Finance Corporation; and Marc Norman, Lawyer, Covington & Burling LLP

Webinar: The Role of the Investor Confidence Project in standardizing the energy efficiency market, 22 November 2017

This webinar, organised by the Network, presented the work of the Investor Confidence Project (ICP) on the energy efficiency market standardization. In particular, the webinar introduced the Investor Ready Energy Efficiency (IREE) Certification developed by ICP for the building renovation market, as well as its expansion into the industry, infrastructure, and district energy. CSP Seville 2017: The Network organised a session on CSP innovation and EU GCC research collaboration prospects, 20-22 November, Seville, Spain

As part, of the CSP Seville 2017 Programme, the Network organised a session on: "CSP in the GCC region: EU GCC cooperation prospects including for research and innovation". The workshop highlighted and discussed the prospects for joint EU GCC research activities on topics of common interest, including in the framework of H2020. Speakers included Dr Marcelino Sanchez from CENER, Prof. Nicolas Calvet from Masdar Institute Solar Platform, Felix Tellez, Ciemat, Peter Heller from DLR and frank Wouters from the Network. A very interesting discussion took place on the prospects for EU GCC collaboration, leading to  proposals/recommendations for the creation of a concrete cooperation framework that could link and facilitate interaction between CSP labs/actors in the two regions. The event was followed by an audience of more than 25 experts largely from the EU private sector, interested in R&D in the field, but also from international actors including the MENA CSP KIP, the IFC, as well as associations including ESTELA. The presentations are available at the event's webpage.

Moreover, Frank Wouters was a panelist at the opening panel on the “RoadMap to reduce the LCOE under 0.07 USD/kWh, Optimising the CSP Technology”. 

The Network partner at the 8th Desert Energy Leadership Summit, 13-14 November 2017, Dubai, UAE   

The event gathered more than 160 high-level experts, mainly from the private sector (EU and GCC/MENA region). The summit revealed clearly how the power industry will become emission free on the basis of renewable energy. We observed with pleasure that participants greatly enjoyed the discussions and personal interactions during the summit. Lead speakers, included H.E. Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, Peter Terium, CEO of Innogy, Haibin Wan, Executive of GEIDCO (Global Energy Interconnection Development Cooperation), Jamila Matar of Arab League and Prof. Ad van Wijk (TU Delft). 

The event combined exclusive features for its high-level participants including 9 round tables, keynote and Top Executive Panel, Exclusive networking dinner, a site visit to Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park - Al Qudra. Frank Wouters moderated the top executive panel while Nick Carter, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, Convener in partnership with Fabian Wigand, Ecofys/NAVIGANT co-ordinated the Round Table on Electricity Interconnections and Market Integration.
